Do you have some leftover yarn from your last project and want to repurpose it with a great little project? The #leftoverscrunchie is a quick knit complementing and matching your latest knit and it makes a cute gift too!

Level: Easy

You will need:

- Short circular needles 25cm – *( I used 4.5mm but you can adapt the needle size to match the leftover yarn you want to use) Other: You can use any other circular needles if you want to use magic loop technique or DPNs. If you want to do it with flat needles you can do as well but remember to seam it in the round at the end before 3 finishing your project.

- Leftover yarn *( I used >5g of Drops Brushed alpaca 2 strand held together or any other yarn)

- Optional: one stitch marker

- Measuring tape and scissors

- Any Hair tie / elastic band

- Tapestry needle

Techniques:

Cast-on – any method

Join in the round - Slip the last stitch (that is, the first one cast on) from the left-hand needle to the right-hand needle. Then lift what's now the second stitch on the right needle (the last one cast on) over the first stitch and onto the left needle. Pull tight and start knitting with the stitches that are on the left-hand part of the needle.

Knit stitch

Cast-off – any method

Mattress stitch (sewing for knitters)

1 Cast on an odd number of stitches ( e.g. 61 stitches) Join in the round (instructions above), optional - place a stitch marker to identify the beginning of the round alternatively you can guide yourself with the cast on tail.

2 Knit in the round – Knit all stitches (It will automatically knit in stockinette stitch) for 5-7 cm (Mine is 5 cm because I run out of yarn which is the purpose of this project – If you desire a fluffier look knit up to 7cm or desired length.

Cast-off all the stitches.

3 Finish your project – Turn the knitted piece on the wrong side and wrap the elastic hair tie around it. Fold the edges back, so the right side (stockinette stitch) faces you. Use your tapestry needle to finish off the scrunchie; for an invisible seam I do recommend the mattress stitch (sewing for knitters)*(I used 2 strands held together of drops brushed alpaca for this scrunchie- the sewing was done with only one strand). Sew the thread, cut it and your scrunchie is ready : )

Recommendation: To wash and block ! (more info check previous post!)
